Dr. Susan Chubinskaya, PhD

Susan Chubinskaya is a Ciba-Geigy Professor of Biochemistry and Professor in Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rheumatology at Rush University, Chicago. She is an internationally recognized expert in the field of growth factors/bone morphogenetic proteins in cartilage repair and regeneration. She is a recipient of the 2012-Jacquelin Perry Resident Research Award for the project "Bony Incorporation of Soft Tissue ACL Grafts in an Animal Model: Autograft vs. Allograft with Low Dose Gamma Irradiation”. Susan is a 2005 co-recipient of Eugene T. Nordby M.D. Research Award, International Intradiscal Therapy Society, for the outstanding research achievements. Co-Chair “Institutional Settings”, LCME re-accreditation process of Rush Medical College. Three years in a row (2009-2011) Susan was noted in prestigious magazine “Who is who in America”. She is an author of more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and more than a hundred presentations. The major focus of Chubinskaya's research program is cartilage aging, regeneration and repair, with the emphasis on specific growth factors and biologic alternatives to traditional clinical approaches.


Dr. Elizaveta Kon, MD

Since 1993 Dr. Kon is involved in surgical, clinical and research activities at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna, Italy. Staff member of the III Clinic Orthopaedic and Traumatology and Biomechanics Laboratory (led by Prof. Maurilio Marcacci). She is an orthopaedic surgeon and researcher focusing on clinical and basic research in the musculoskelal tissue engineering. Assistant Professor of Motor Sciences Faculty of the University of Bologna, held the course of "Bioengineering applying to the locomotor apparatus pathology” (2000-2005). Since 2010 Dr. Kon is the Director of Nano-Biotechnology Laboratory and is in charge of numerous research projects and clinical trials on biotechnology applications in orthopaedics (from pre-clinical studies to clinical trials). She is a Principal investigator of numerous research projects funded by the Italian Government and European Community. Elizaveta is a President of the Cartilage Committee and Board Member of the Italian Society of Knee, Arthroscopy Sport Cartilage and Orthopaedic Technologies (SIGASCOT). Co- founder and past president of Young Surgeons and Orthopedic Surgeons (YSOS) club of International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS). President of Fellowship Scholarships and Grants Committee and member of the General Board ICRS President of Cartilage Committee of European Society of Sports Traumatology Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA). Dr Kon has authored over 80 peer-reviewed scientific articles and over 20 chapters in textbooks in orthopaedic surgery. She has presented at over 200 society meetings all over Europe, Asia and North America.


Dr. Patricia Zuk, PhD

Patricia is the Research Director of the Regenerative Bioengineering and Repair (REBAR) Lab in the Division of Plastic Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. In addition to heading up the REBAR lab, Patricia is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at UCLA. Patricia has served as the REBAR lab’s research director for over 10 years where she leads a multidisciplinary team of researchers and surgeons interested in the application of adult stem cells to tissue engineering. She has an extensive publication history in the field of adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs), including being the lead author on the seminal paper describing the ASC. Patricia continues to publish extensively in the fields of ASC biology and regenerative medicine and serves on the editorial boards of several major peer-reviewed journals in stem cells and regenerative medicine. Patricia’s current research direction has been funded by both private and government programs, including the NIH. 


Dr. Peter D. Geldner, MD
